Fullarton Clan History

The clan takes its name from the barony of Fullerton in Ayrshire's Dundonald parish.

William Fullarton of that ilk built Fullarton House in Ayrshire in 1745. It was, however, demolished in 1966.

Alanus de Fowlertoun (d.1280) founded and endowed a Carmelite, or White Friars, convent at Irvine. Around 1283, his son, Adam de Fowlerton, received a charter from James the High Steward for the lands of Foullartoun and Gaylis in Kyle Stewart.

A branch of the family settled in Arran and is said to have received a charter of the lands of Kilmichael from Robert I in 1307.

Galfridus de Foullertoune was granted the land of Foullertoun in the sheriffdom of Forfar by Robert I in 1327.

The family owned the estate for over 120 years before relocating to the parish of Meigle, which was renamed Fullarton.

Fullarton Tartans

There is no registered tartan for the Fullarton clan. People with the Fullarton surname, however, can wear the Boyd tartan as a sept of Clan Boyd.
