Newlands Clan History
Newlands, or Nielands, is also the name of an old barony in the sheriffdom of Kincardine, as well as a parish in Peebles-shire, so the surname may have territorial origins, though this is uncertain.
The name was quite common in Glasgow in the 1500s, and it was also once fairly common in the parish of Dalswinton.
Jasper Newlands of that Ilk was recorded with this surname in 1469, and Duncan Newlandis was bailie in the burgh of Linlithgow in 1493.
In Linlithgow, Peter Newlandis testified in 1537, and a Kentigern Newlandis testified in 1542.
Joneta Neulands was recognized as the official heir to the lands in the barony of Monkland in 1675.
In 1726, Robert Newlands, a former glover, was a burgess of Edinburgh.

A word about Coats of Arms:
A coat of arms is granted to an individual under Scottish heraldic law (with the exception of civic or corporate arms). A 'family coat of arms' does not exist. With the exceptions noted above, the arms depicted below are personal arms. Only the person who has been granted these weapons has the right to use them.
