Kinloch Clan History
The name comes from the barony of Kinloch, which is located at the head of Rossie Loch in the parish of Collessie in Fife.
In 1296, William de Kyndelloche of Fifeshire paid homage to England's Edward I by signing the Ragman Rolls, along with the signatures of many other Scottish nobility.
Sir John Kyndeloch was chaplain to friar Andrew Meldrum, brother of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, 1438, and attested a confirmation charter by David II to Ysabella de Fyf in 1365.
James VI bestowed the lands of Aberbothrie on David Kinloch, a well-known traveller and physician. A different David Kinloch was made Baronet of Nova Scotia in 1685.
In 1616, David Kinloch, possibly a member of one of the cadet branches, obtained the lands of Aberbothrie from James VI; he was a noted physician and traveller. In 1685, another David Kinloch was made a Baronet of Nova Scotia.
The Kinlochs have long been associated with Dundee, and in the reformed Parliament of 1832, George Kinloch was elected the first MP for Dundee.
