Ged Clan History
This family lived in Belridge, near Dunfermline, Fife.
Laurence Ged served as a juror on an inquest in Peebles in 1304, James Ged was presbyter of the diocese of St Andrews in 1536, and Jhone Ged was dean of Edinburgh in 1552.
William Ged was scourged through the streets of Dysart in 1562 for defrauding his neighbors by selling horseflesh.
In 1591, Thomas Ged was the portioner of Fruchy, in 1608, Robert Ged held the mill of Geddis milne, and in 1643, William Ged of Baldrig was an elder in the parish of Dunfermline.
William Ged (1690-1749) was the inventor of stereotyping.
James Ged, Ged's son, was a captain in the Duke of Perth's regiment during the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Ged was captured and sentenced to death following the Jacobean defeat. Fortunately for James Ged, the Duke of Newcastle intervened on William Ged's behalf, and he was released in 1748.
The clan crest, which depicts a pike's head, is a play on the clan's name. A ged is a heraldic term for a pike.

Coats of Arms of Ged
A word about Coats of Arms:
A coat of arms is granted to an individual under Scottish heraldic law (with the exception of civic or corporate arms). A 'family coat of arms' does not exist. With the exceptions noted above, the arms depicted below are personal arms. Only the person who has been granted these weapons has the right to use them.
