MacIntyre Clan History
The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Mac-an-T'saoir,' which means'son of a carpenter,' and is found throughout the Highlands.
The MacIntyres of Glen Noe were foresters to the Lord of Lorn by the end of the 13th century. Duncan of Bàn and the MacIntyre families became hereditary pipers, while others became bards.
Duncan, the first chief of record, married a Campbell.
The MacIntyres originally held their land by right of sword, but they had acquired feudal obligations to the Campbells that were purely symbolic until the 18th century. When the Campbells of Breadalbane imposed an ever-increasing rent, the 4th and 5th Chiefs, Duncan and Donald, emigrated to America by 1806.
The correct shield of arms was recorded by the 9th Chief in 1991, and the MacIntyres reclaimed their seat on the Council of Clan Chiefs.

In a disintegrating society, his work documented his love and knowledge of nature.
