Clan Byres History
The name Byers and Buyers is derived from the old barony of Byres in East Lothian.
In 1309, John de Byres appears as a Neubotle monk. In 1392, Thomas de Byris owned a tenement in Edinburgh, and in 1534, Thomas Byres was elected burgess of Aberdeen.
Between 1593 and 1653, George Byris and Thomas Byris served as ministers in Legertwood, Berwickshire.
During the 17th century, John Byres was a prominent merchant in Edinburgh, serving as treasurer, dean of guild, and Provost.
Andrew Byers is listed as a burgess of Cupar in 1694.
Clan Byres Tartans
Although there is no registered Byres tartan, because they are a sept of Clan Lindsay, people with the Byres surname can wear the Lindsay tartans.

A word about Coats of Arms:
A coat of arms is granted to an individual under Scottish heraldic law (with the exception of civic or corporate arms). A 'family coat of arms' does not exist. With the exceptions noted above, the arms depicted below are personal arms. Only the person who has been granted these weapons has the right to use them.
