Clan Beveridge History
The name is said to derive from the island of Beverege in the Severn, which Florence of Worcester described as a Danes' retreat during an English revolt.
The name appears for the first time in Scotland in 1302 when Walter Beverage is named as a juror on an inquest in St. Andrews.
Henry Beveragh testified in Paisley in 1504.
A decree against Alexander Bauerage is recorded in 1531.
In 1534, David Beverage was cup-bearer to James V, and in 1567, James Baverage, son of the Queen's midwife, received a payment.
Alexander Bavirige was a Culross monk in the 16th century.
In 1677, James and Andrew Beverage were fined for brewing beer that was too weak, and their name was recorded as 'Belfarge' when they appealed for a remission of their fines a few days later.
A John Beverich lives at Houburn-mill in the parish of Coldingham in 1724.
